On June 19, 2024, Prof. Dogan Gursoy from Washington State University was invited to visit the School of Liberal Arts of M.U.S.T. and was warmly received by the Associate Vice-president of M.U.S.T. and Dean of SLA Prof. Aliana Man Wai Leong, SLA Faculty Secretary Mr. Kou Chon Fai, Prof. Zhao Xinyuan, Prof. Luo Jianming and Dr. Bai Jingyi.
Prof. Gursoy is the editor-in-chief of the journal "Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management", which ranks first in the 2023 impact factor among 139 academic journals in the category of hospitality, leisure, sports and tourism. During his visit, Prof. Gursoy extensively exchanged academic ideas with the teachers of SLA and made discussion on collaborative research topics. He also guided research activities, and actively contributed ideas to enhance M.U.S.T.’s international academic influence. This visit will play a huge role in promoting M.U.S.T. to achieve world-class results in relevant disciplines, reach new academic heights, and form greater international academic influence.

Prof. Gursoy gave a wonderful lecture on the topic "Publishing in Leading International Journals". First, he introduced the standards for publishing papers in top international academic journals and explained the necessity and importance of academic publication. Then, he gave suggestions on publishing in top international journals in terms of research team, literature review, academic needs, topic fit, research contribution, research methodology, theoretical sources and special issues of journals. After that, he specifically put forward the basic essentials for writing excellent papers from the aspects of research ideas, research scientificity and academic writing. Using the paper structure as the outline, he explained the writing suggestions for each part and emphasized the important precautions of paper review and revision. Taking artificial intelligence (A.I.) research as an example, Prof. Gursoy demonstrated an experimental scene of coffee shop A.I. service based on A.I. and service robot technology and gave leading suggestions for cutting-edge research. Finally, Prof. Gursoy patiently answered questions and had an in-depth exchange with the students and teachers. Prof. Christina Chi from Washington State University in the United States also provided valuable opinions on the lecture content and issues between teachers and students. Teachers and students from M.U.S.T.’ s School of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Institute for Social and Cultural Research participated in the lectures and exchanges. They were deeply impressed by the large amount of information, profound insights, and strong cutting-edge nature, which greatly stimulated and encouraged academic publication and career development. They all benefited a lot from the exchange.

Prof. Gursoy then visited the M.U.S.T. History and Achievements Exhibition Hall, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science, the Library, etc. He spoke highly of M.U.S.T.’s rapid development, strong academic atmosphere and positive spirit. He looked forward to more high-level results from collaborative research.
